The Cherries’ newly-appointed President of Football Operations knows Bove well from their time together in the Italian capital. MORE EVERTON STORIES Bove, who shares De Rossi’s aggression and tenacity as well as his technical qualities, made his name under the legendary Jose Mourinho at the Stadio Olimpico. Mourinho hailed his nous and maturity, feeling that Bove was playing like a man ten years his senior.“The only one I really liked – because he gave everything technically, tactically and mentally – was a 21-year-old kid who was not even in the first team two years ago,” Mourinho said in 2023, singling out Bove for praise after Roma’s 2-0 Europa League defeat to Slavia Prague.“We had one player who played with legs, body and mind. An aggressive and athletic midfielder, Bove – alongside fellow youngster Iroegbunam – would add some extra speed and exuberance to an ageing Everton midfield. Abdoulaye Doucoure and Idrissa Gana Gueye are both on the wrong side of 30, while Amadou Onana‘s future remains very much up in the air.
